Pickens County Virtual Academy offers full-time online learning opportunities for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade!
July 14 Update:
After considering feedback from parents, SDPC will allow semester-by-semester enrollment in Pickens County Virtual Academy for the coming year! Students enrolled in PCVA will have the opportunity to switch to face-to-face learning when they return after Christmas Break, and we will accept new enrollment to PCVA from face-to-face learning. Families will be asked to give notification of intent for second semester enrollment by November 23, 2020.

The fall enrollment deadline has been extended to July 22, 2020. PCVA currently offers nine Honors and nine AP courses for high school students, and demands for these courses continues to increase. As students and parents fill out the enrollment form, you have the opportunity to indicate additional courses that you would like to have available online. We will be reviewing these course requests to add course availability based on demand.
SDPC is no longer accepting applications for Pickens County Virtual Academy for the 2020-2021 school year. The deadline to enroll passed on July 22, 2020, at noon. We are no longer adding or removing students from this program. Any further requests may be sent to virtual@pickens.k12.sc.us for consideration if space permits a change. Otherwise, plan to report to the school or program where you are assigned on the first day of school.
Starting in the 2020-2021 school year, we are expanding our virtual program to accommodate students who may not be ready to return to face-to-face instruction due to coronavirus concerns and to continue to serve students of all ages who have found online learning to be a good fit during the pandemic.

Unlike other online education options, Pickens County Virtual Academy allows students to be taught by a teacher from their own community, facilitates a smooth transition back to traditional schooling in SDPC, and allows graduates to still earn a diploma from their local high school. Pickens County Virtual Academy’s curriculum aligns to South Carolina College & Career Ready Standards. Students will be supported with teachers, devices, and software provided by SDPC.

To address enrollment needs for virtual learning and learning from home, the School District of Pickens County has partnered with three organizations to offer virtual learning opportunities for students in 5K-12th grades.

Middle School Virtual Learning
Middle School learners have the opportunity to engage in SC standards-aligned curriculum through Odysseyware and VirtualSC.

Students receive the majority of their content delivered through Odysseyware with a teacher from SDPC to assess learning and support with supplemental instruction when needed. Odysseyware offers English, Math, Science, and Social Studies instruction, along with some elective opportunities for grades 6-8.  For more information on Odysseyware click HERE.

Some middle school students will want to take advantage of courses offered in VirtualSC. Sixth graders may take overview courses to serve as electives. These are Exploring World Languages and Introduction to Careers. Students who are in the 7th and 8th grades have the opportunity to take courses for Carnegie units of credit toward their graduation requirements. A school counselor will work with students and parents to assist students with enrolling in appropriate courses. For more information on VirtualSC, click HERE.

Middle School learners may take all courses through virtual programming with Odysseyware or VirtualSC. Others may wish to supplement courses with this programming and take some courses with their middle school in a face-to-face setting and others through a virtual classroom. We encourage parents and students to explore these virtual resources. A school counselor will work with students and parents to assist with enrolling in the appropriate courses. SDPC provides a device for students to use for the coursework, but families are responsible for providing reliable Internet access and a supportive environment for online learning.
