On February 24, the
board voted to revise the school calendar for the 2017-2018 school year in
anticipation of the recent change in state law which allowed schools to start

The new calendar has
a start date of August 17. The calendar includes several other changes from the
original calendar passed in January:
- The first day of 5K classes
will be August 21.
- The winter break will begin
on December 20, and students will return on January 3.
- February 16 will be a Teacher
Work Day; students do not attend.
- Schools will be closed on
February 19 (President's Day)
- Inclement Weather Make-Up
days will be on March 16, March 30, and April 30. Students do not attend
school on these days unless they are needed to make up for inclement
will allow the district to space needed breaks more evenly throughout the
school year, while still ending the school year at a reasonable date.
The district is also
in the process of planning for the event of the total solar eclipse on August
21. We plan to make the event a safe learning experience for students. Students
will not be allowed to view the eclipse without protective eyewear, which schools
are in the process of obtaining. The district is still in process of finalizing
our plan for the eclipse, which may include altered dismissal times. We will
communicate details of the plan to parents in the coming weeks.
