Attention parents!

As winter approaches, our schools have to prepare for the possibility of inclement weather. This year, the School District of Pickens County is one of five districts participating in South Carolina’s eLearning Pilot, which means that when schools close for inclement weather, students will have a Digital Learning Day to complete schoolwork online.

  • When SDPC has a Digital Learning Day, students will have five days to complete assignments for the day. For students in grades 4-12, in which all students have school-issued Chromebooks, the work can be completed on the computer. Students in earlier grades will also be given a list of traditional assignments to complete within five days.
  • If assignments are not completed within five days, the student will be marked absent.
  • As inclement weather approaches, students should prepare by making sure their Chromebooks are charged in case of power outages.
  • Teachers will have assignments available and will hold office hours which they will communicate to their students and parents directly.
  • Families are encouraged to share your pictures of students engaging in digital work (or playing in the snow after their work is complete) on social media with the #SDPCweatherproof hashtag.  Remind students that one of the benefits of having Digital Learning Days is that the canceled school day does not have to be made up!
  • For more detailed information, please visit our Digital Learning Day website.

As always, if school is canceled due to inclement weather, SDPC will communicate the closure through phone calls, text messages (for parents who opt in), email, our website, social media posts, and news media. Our goal is always to announce a closure as early as possible and never later than 6:30 a.m. on the day of the cancellation. Thank you for your help as we attempt to make the eLearning Pilot a success!
